A Filmfestival can be exhausting… 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. or even 5 films a day. Let’s lean back and enjoy some gruesome or just plain silly cinema around midnight! Each festival night, a Midnight Screening closes the day. Cinema can be fun – even more so in the dark.
Emerging from the American underground and exploitation scene of the 1960s–70s, the “midnight screening” became a countercultural movement. Art house cinemas started showing films too controversial, too weird, too violent for the mainstream or your typical daytime slot. A whole subculture was born – and it still lingers, even if it feels kinda faded in Germany.
Let’s go down the rabbit hole! B-movies, cult, classics, horror, phantasms… Take the leap – come if you dare!
